Petroleum coke, commonly known as "petcoke," is a carbon-rich solid material that emerges as a final byproduct in petroleum refining. It belongs to the broader category of fuels known as "cokes." Petcoke is specifically produced during the final cracking phase, a thermal chemical process in which long-chain hydrocarbons are broken down into shorter ones. This process takes place in specialized units called "coker units." The resulting petcoke is a solid fuel with high carbon content, widely used in industrial applications and energy production due to its efficiency and energy density.
